Black Sea Studies
Sortehavet, som grækerne kaldte Pontos Euxeinos eller "Det Gæstfri Hav" er fokus for denne serie, som beskæftiger sig med etniske relationer, kulturel interaktion og økonomisk indbyrdes afhængighed i Sortehavsregionen i perioden ca. 700 f.Kr.-325 e.Kr., men med hovedfokus på årene ca. 400 f.Kr.-100 e.Kr.
Selv om Sortehavsregionen ses under et, er fokus koncentreret om de nordlige og sydlige kyster af Sortehavsregionen, dvs. det område, som svarer til det moderne Rusland, Ukraine og Tyrkiet.
Udgivelserne behandler især emner såsom center-periferi forhold og kulturel interaktion som udtryk for etniske og kulturelle strategier. Analyserne er baseret på en opfattelse af Sortehavsregionen som forbindelsesled mellem Asien og Europa op igennem tiderne.
