About the book
On the 25th September 2009 Aarhus University inaugurated an exhibition that presents a very wide spectrum of the decorative works of visual artist Erik A. Frandsen. The exhibition is housed in Building 1430, Nordre Ringgade 1, Aarhus, where both the University's Rectorate and Board are placed. In this way, the University has extended even further the great number of significant works of art that students and staff can enjoy on a daily basis on campus.
This book is not only a presentation of Erik A. Frandsen's decorative art, but is also a celebration of the fact that the University is home to such artistic excellence.
Frandsen has composed wholeness out of a multiplicity of works: two mosaics, executed in a centuries' old, Italian handcraft tradition; a complete wall of mirror-like steel plates with engraved flowers; a white painted aluminium relief, and a number of oil paintings.
There are works which, with their easily recognisable motifs relate to reality, but which also - each in its own way - present us with transformations of it.
In this sense art has the same goal as the University: It deals with reflecting on how the world 'hangs together', and on how we comprehend it.
