Wouter J. Hanegraaff
Trained as a historian of religions, Hanegraaff's area of specialization is the history of western esoteric currents from the early Renaissance to the present. His publications are partly devoted to historical research focused on specific currents and source materials, partly to analytical perspectives and questions of method and theory. His central research interests are the relation between religious practice and professed belief, the relation between rationality and religious experience(s), and the impact of processes of modernization, secularization and the disenchantment of the world.
